INTRODUCTION
SmartCEM™ predictive emissions monitoring systems (PEMS) are extremely cost-effective compliance monitoring solutions. SmartCEM™ products have been demonstrated to be accurate and highly reliable when compared to continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) in independent field tests conducted by U.S. EPA. The SmartCEM™ products were designed to provide advanced and superior emissions monitoring capability and are guaranteed to pass certification testing under 40 CFR. SmartCEM™ solutions can be operated independent of a CEMS under most regulations promulgated to date.
COMPLETE SYSTEMS
SmartCEM™ complete systems are customized to meet local regulator requirements and are delivered to the site with startup and training to provide a comprehensive and cost-effective complete solution for process and compliance emission monitoring. SmartCEM™ complete systems include SmartCEM™-60, SmartCEM™-503, and SmartCEM™-75 to meet 40 CFR Part 60, Part 503, and Part 75 regulations respectively. These SmartCEM™ products are customized to meet the requirements of the specific site and source to provide all of the reporting required for submittal under 40 CFR including excess emissions and summary reports. SmartCEM-75™ provides compliance reports for both Part 60 and Part 75 and includes electronic data reports required for submittal to Clean Air Markets Division and under the NOx SIP Call and Ozone Transport regulations. SmartCEM™-60 can be upgraded to SmartCEM™-75 at a later date.
SmartCEM™ Compliance provides all the fundamental features of the other complete systems without any customized or specific reporting required by 40 CFR. SmartCEM™ Compliance is the most cost-effective complete PEMS solution on the market today and provides a standard set of compliance reporting and system configuration tools to meet most other Federal, State, and local regulatory reporting requirements not subject to specific 40 CFR regulations (such as Compliance Assurance Monitoring or Voluntary Superior Monitoring protocols). SmartCEM™ Compliance can typically be delivered within 30 days of your purchase authorization.

SmartCEM™ Developer
SmartCEM™ component solutions are offered to allow customers to continue to leverage their existing emissions and process monitoring equipment. SmartCEM™ components were developed for maximum flexibility in deployment. In addition to the complete system described above, together with our business alliance partners, we can deliver and configure just the specific system component required to complete the compliance solution at any given site. Component solutions are classified broadly as CEMS, SmartCEM™ hardware, and SmartCEM™ software categories. The CEMS category includes emission monitoring options such as fixed, mobile, and temporary CEMS, CEMS service and air emission testing, and CEMS quality assurance support.
HARDWARE COMPONENTS
Hardware solutions include customized workstations and servers for any of our systems or components along with the SmartCEM™ RTU - our most cost-effective SmartCEM™ product designed for remote combustion units, micro-turbines, gas pipeline compressor stations, and many other applications where complete systems are not practical to operate and maintain.
SmartCEM™ RTU is a complete system offered at an extremely competitive price. The SmartCEM™ RTU consists of a ruggedized hardware device that contains a Windows XP embedded processor running in protected mode on uninterruptible power. The SmartCEM™ RTU boots up off EPROM and utilizes 1GB static RAM with no hard drive providing an extremely reliable platform with a rich set of connectivity options built-in. Typically, a serial interface exists with the process control system, an Ethernet port is maintained for interface with the local area network at the site, and a serial port is available for remote configuration via a laptop. Other connectivity options are available including modem, wireless, and removable media. The system is fully programmed and provided in a wall mount enclosure for installation in a conditioned environment (Nema 12 fiberglass or epoxy coated steel) such as a plant control room or outside in a weather-tight enclosure (Nema 4x stainless steel).
SOFTWARE COMPONENTS
Software components include the SmartCEM™ Analyzer, SmartCEM™ Server, SmartCEM™ Configuration Tools, and SmartCEM™ Developer solutions. These advanced software components are designed to interface with existing process or emission monitoring systems. The software component solutions are cost-effective where complete SmartCEM™ packaged systems are not practical (i.e., site with many similar units that are remotely located, sites that recently invested in an advanced emission monitoring or process control systems, sites with existing SQL database that contain the process data, and for our OEM partners to deploy as part of a complete ‘turnkey’ project).
SmartCEM™ Analyzer is a standalone component for predicting emissions of a combustion source from historical or real-time process data. SmartCEM™ Analyzer functions in two methods either actively polling the process control system for real-time data and generating a continuous output and record of the emissions or by responding to a call from another system to provide a predicted emission rate given a known process operating condition. The SmartCEM™ Analyzer may be installed on existing or new equipment at the site with legacy process controls or compliance reporting software provided by a third party or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner. SmartCEM™ Analyzer can provide real-time emission rate data for compliance monitoring and reporting purposes, or it can be used in modeling and simulation of the process or combustion unit for engineering, process optimization, and operator training purposes.
SmartCEM™ Server is a comprehensive back-end suite of software products that are delivered as a complete package with operating system, database, database connectivity, remote access, SmartCEM™ Configuration Tools, and site support bundled together as a component solution. SmartCEM™ Server communicates with any remote devices such as SmartCEM™ RTU on the network and any SmartCEM™ Analyzer deployed at the site to collect all historical process and emission data. SmartCEM™ Server is provided with all of the database and customized application coding required for long-term storage of compliance data. A two-day training program for up to four persons and a complete documentation set are also provided with SmartCEM™ Server.
SmartCEM™ Configuration Tools provide configuration and remote access to any SmartCEM™ product via standard serial or Ethernet connectivity. The SmartCEM™ Configuration Tools are built-in to each complete system packaged product, and are provided as an optional component for customers that purchase SmartCEM™ without the built-in configuration interface such as the SmartCEM™ RTU. SmartCEM™ Configuration Tools are not required for ongoing operation of SmartCEM™ RTU, only for configuration changes and model redevelopment. Customers can utilize a single copy of the SmartCEM™ Configuration Tools with multiple SmartCEM™ RTUs deployed at the site.
SmartCEM™ Developer is a solution designed for customers with experienced information technology staff that are held responsible for custom reporting of process and compliance data. SmartCEM™ Developer includes SmartCEM™ Server and the source code required for generation of customer reports. SmartCEM™ Developer is provided with an extensive one-week training period for up to three persons along with report system source code and documentation. The customer is provided with training and deployment of the development environment onsite in order to generate custom reports and graphs for internal use and to respond to any future changes in the regulatory reporting requirements.
